If you have website woes, you’re not the only one.

I review a lot of websites and pretty much what I hear from folks about their site is:

  1. My website isn’t attracting any clients…
  2. My website doesn’t work or represent me well…
  3. My website is U-G-L-Y…
  4. My website needs an overhaul but I don’t know where to start…
  5. Help!

I understand. Websites often cause confusion and frustration because folks generally don’t know how to envision, plan, prepare, structure, or produce a website that works.

I created my first website in 1997 and since then I’ve been focused almost exclusively on creating branding and websites for clients and figuring out EVERYTHING you need to know and do to make sure your website is wildly attractive to your tribe.
Here are the steps (and a great offer below for help getting this done):

Step 1: Create a Vision for Your Website

First you need to know why you are creating or updating this website. What is your vision? What are you attracting or delivering or wanting from your website? Often folks skip over this part thinking it’s obvious, but determining your website direction now can help save time and money later. Your website process can be simplified by choosing a clear path for your online marketing.

Step 2: Identify Your Ideal Website Audience and Their Needs

One mistake many people make is trying to attract just anyone through their site and simply describing their services as a strategy to engage. This won’t work. You need to really know your audience and understand their needs so you can address and solve their concerns. Taking time to identify your ideal website audience is critical to ensuring your site works.

Step 3: Create a Wildly Attractive Website Plan

I am not a great planner myself. I often like to go with the flow and take attractive actions based on inspiration. But when it comes to websites, I have come to realize the importance of having a great (albeit simple) plan that supports you to swiftly optimize your website for long term results. This plan should include structures and strategies that support you to easily conduct business online, i.e. attracting clients “while you sleep.”

Step 4: Select Your Magical Website Tools

There are thousands of available tools that can do all the heavy lifting of attracting, connecting and following up with your site visitors. It can be very tempting to get everything we are offered, especially when the promise is to make your life easy. When you have a clear plan (Step 3) it becomes easier to sort through myriad options to swiftly choose the platforms, software, and elements you need for your website, while ignoring ‘shiny objects’ and ‘the latest thing.’ You may need help deciding what’s really best for you. (Help is offered below)

Step 5: Make Your Website Beautiful

You want to take time to select imagery that reflects your essence and personality, and helps you become recognizable online. Additionally, the theme you select can make a huge difference in how your content is received by your site visitors. Often people feel frustrated by this part but there are simple strategies for creating beautiful, consistent graphics and layouts for your website, such as Canva for creating graphics and the Divi Visual Builder for WordPress.

Step 6: Creating Content that Connects

Probably the most important and most challenging step in making your website wildly attractive to your tribe is creating great content (i.e. copy and media). Doing steps 1, 2 and 3 well will make this part exponentially easier and more straightforward, but most people need guidance to get this right. You want to learn how to write copy in a way that flows naturally and inspires your visitors to explore your website and take desired actions, ultimately leading to deeper lasting connections.

Step 7: Get the Right Help

Most folks who come to my group website review (details for the next one below) express frustration that the people who they hired to help with their site made things worse. Either they didn’t listen, or they disappeared, or maybe they just didn’t get it. That’s why it’s important to find the right team of folks who understand your unique needs and are open and willing to include your feedback in the process.
